In honor of National Eating Disorder Week, let’s talk about Body Dysmorphia!
I have battled with body dysmorphia for as long as I can remember. In this era of beauty, I have decided to stop editing my body in pictures. (I.E: Editing out my hip dips or hiding my stretch marks.) Here’s WHY:
Due to hyper consumption of social media, we have seen the normalization of plastic surgery and other forms of body enhancements. According to the American Society of Plastics Surgeons, cosmetic procedures have experienced a dramatic increase since the COVID-19 pandemic.
**𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲.
I’m all about people finding their confidence and feeling good about the skin that they're in. All of you guys are Hotties, and we all have our fair share of cosmetic enhancements (i.e. teeth whitening, keratin treatments, laser treatments, etc. However, the over consumption of surgically enhanced bodies has impacted the way we see natural bodies. Things such as hip dips, non-perky boobs, back rolls, cellulite, under eye bags, and so much more have been seen as undesirable and unkept. These are completely normal and there should be no shame tied to these "imperfections".
For those of you that struggle with your confidence or are battling with body dysmorphia, I encourage you all to please DO NOT EDIT YOUR BODY IN YOUR PICTURES. I promise you it does absolutely nothing for your healing. Trust me it’s tough and very enticing to transform the way you look to fit into the norm. However, you cannot heal from something that you refuse to accept. So post that damn picture with all of your temples decorations that makes you hot & unique.
If you need more support of your mental health journey, check out the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA).

What would my life look like if I had let the false narratives distract me from my goals and purpose? I would have NEVER:
I have struggled with negative body image and body dysmorphia for my whole life. Things such as the media and pop culture did not help with my healing journey. However, alot of the pressures to look a certain way came from my immediate connections. In addition, the external commentary on my body’s appearance didn’t make the journey easier. I was told:
“Your torn rotator cuffs will prevent you from moving forward in your cheerleading career.”
“No one would ever buy clothes from a designer with your body type.”
“Your leg deformity (bowed legs) will prevent you from moving far in your pageant journey.”
The gag is, the way people are going to project their own fears onto you is madness. As crazy as that commentary sounds, I had to overcome shutting out those false narratives and choosing a path of healing through radical self acceptance. I have accepted that I am worthy to accomplish anything and my body is not the limit— it’s the universe.
I challenge you to change the negative narratives you have toward your body and make a daily choice to see it’s true value. We see people with different body types and abilities accomplished amazing and unconventional things everyday. Whether you’re an athlete, dancer, model, etc. your body is worthy enough to accomplish anything and everything you dream of. Don't forget it.

"Life Pro Tip: If you are not feeling confident today, fake it. Fake it until it feels real. Confidence is like a muscle, you have to train it everyday for it to grow stronger -- even if it's uncomfortable at first." -- Morayo Olujumu
My unpopular opinion I thought I’d share with the timeline. But hey, this method worked for me Rihanna, and Maddie too.
My confidence journey was absolutely not linear and a dramatic rollercoaster ride. If we're gonna be honest, no healing journey is liner. There are going to be constant up and downs. You just got to stay faithful in the ride. Even after months of therapy and detoxing from anything/everything that contributed to my lack of confidence, I still struggled.
It wasn’t until I learned that a part of having confidence was a choice. I made the choice everyday to go out into the world and radically accept myself — unapologetically.
One thing to remember when you start your healing journey is that, your therapist is NOT your fairy god mother who going to magically poof your negative self image away. However, they are your teachers/mentors who are there to guide you through that process, but you have to put in the daily effort. That effort for me was faking it until being confident became a habit.
So speak those positive affirmations every day, eat healthy, get a good 8 hours of rest, put yourself first in necessary situations, and treat yourself like the royalty you are. Becoming more confident in yourself throughout your healing journey is going to take you a long way. I challenge you all who have been struggling with your confidence lately, and fake it + practice it until you feel deep down you are that you are worthy, amazing, beautiful, & that girl (or babe).
